The countdown is on!

Can you believe it's already November?? I feel like I say this every month lately. My days don't seem to go by all that quickly, but the months sure do (and please, tell me how this makes ANY sense?!). Thanksgiving and Halloween have come and gone and the only thing between us and Christmas is Remembrance Day.

Oh.

And the birth of my next child!

I'm 34 weeks pregnant today and am getting super duper excited to meet this next little munchkin! That means only 40-ish days to go!! I can't wait to find out what she looks like and what her little personality is going to be. Will she look a lot like Abby or be a completely different combination of Wookey and VanRietschoten? Will she have blonde hair, brown hair, or red hair? It's so fun to imagine what she's like, but it will be even more fun to meet her for the first time!

I have my next prenatal appointment tomorrow so as of right now I have no more news as to how baby is growing/progressing. I will give you an update when I know more.

Also, as promised...here's a picture of a cute little kitty we found on Halloween.

We went to Grandma and Grandpa Wookey's house for trick-or-treating and it was a great time! Chad and Grandpa took her down the block to see the neighbours and she came back with a nice little stash of candy. Somehow I've had the willpower to not devour it all....I'm rather amazed! I will also admit that I'm excited for next Halloween already. We went to Walmart on November 1st and scored a cute fluffy bunny costume for baby #2 already....I couldn't say no to 75% off! We didn't buy anything for Abby though - I would rather her be an animal or a princess or something happy. All that was left in the bigger sizes were monsters and skeletons so we'll just pick something next year; she'll likely have more of an opinion by then anyways! We all know how toddlers like to exercise their independence....

Yesterday we had the privilege of going to the Vancouver aquarium! What an amazing place. Opa and Nana (my beautiful parents) are in the city right now so we met up with them for lunch and an outing to the aquarium. It was amazing. The vast array of sea creatures in this world is astounding! I would like to say that Abby enjoyed herself the most....but I think I felt comparable awe to hers - I just didn't squeal, jump up and down, and point with quite the same enthusiasm as she did. I would have loved to spend more time there, but it was getting late and a (almost) two year old has only so much attention and patience when she doesn't get her afternoon nap.

I would highly recommend going if you ever get the chance.

This week will be full of housework and Christmas shopping; I'm now on a mission to be prepared for Christmas nice and early! I know some of you are WAY ahead of me and almost done your Christmas shopping/prep already....my goal is to be mainly done by mid-November. Let's see how this week goes :)

Surgery, Recovery, and Christmas

Hey everyone!! I can't believe it has been so long since I last wrote on here. It makes me realize just how crazy busy we were over the holidays - well, over the entire month of December, really. We are now into 2016. Can you believe it?! Another year has come and gone, and now we stand in the first days of a new one. What will this next year hold? Your guess is as good as mine. I have grand dreams and goals for myself and my family - so we shall see what 2016 brings to us! It feels like SO, so long ago already, but Julia had her frontal orbital advancement surgery on November 27th, 2015 just as planned. We had to be at the hospital bright and early like last time - 6:45am, with her last feeding at 2:45am. So once again, I set my alarm for 2:30am and got up to nurse her one last time before she began fasting. We arrived and went into pre-op. Got her dressed up in her little gown, and waited for the nurse to come take her away. It was both harder and easier this time. We knew ...

How to Meal Plan

Happy October! So. I took on the task of meal planning again yesterday and decided to try doing it for the entire month of October; just like I did all of September last time. I am accustomed to doing two week planning but decided to buckle down and do the entire month again. It was a lot harder this time around! I think it was due to the fact that I just don't have the same volume of stuff in the freezer to use so I had to come up with meals that both used up things in the house AND required new items to be bought. Last month was strictly using up what I had in the house already (except dairy and veggies) so I knew exactly what I had to work with. This time was much more open-ended; I'm coming to learn that I do better when I have less options to choose from. I actually find it quite daunting to have limitless possibilities. I figured I would walk you guys through my meal planning process. I had a friend of mine do the same a while ago (check her out  here ) and i...

Julia's Frontal Orbital Advancement Surgery

I promised I'd give more details on Julia's next surgery, so here they are. At the end of November she will undergo what is called a frontal orbital advancement (FOA). They cut the front section of the skull, move it forward, and also move the bone of the upper orbit (top section of your eye sockets, for those non-sciencey folk) forward. They take the section of bone from the front of the skull and actually split it into two pieces. They split it by thickness, so they essentially double the surface area of the part of the skull that is being moved. The two pieces will be half the thickness of the original piece, but there is then more bone to work with and to fill in the gap created by moving the skull and upper orbit forward.  The neurosurgeon has assured me that there will be no loss in the integrity of her skull with this splitting of the bone. Apparently, her body will build it up in thickness again and also form new bone in between the pieces they place to fil...
